Tesco Automation is Growing
This fall, we were thrilled to welcome Mohammad Y. Razib, P.Eng., to the Tesco Automation team. Joining us as a seasoned Protection & Automation Engineer, Mohammad brings over 15 years of expertise in the electrical power industry, including extensive experience in IEC 61850-based PAC applications.
With a proven track record integrating complex protection and control systems for major utilities and oil & gas projects, Mohammad’s work ensures alignment with operational, safety, and business goals. He has already proven to be an incredible asset, and we are excited to have him on board!
Tesco Automation is hiring once again! We’re currently on the lookout for a passionate IEC 61850 Systems Engineer – Digital Substations to join our team.
This position offers hands-on experience with the most advanced PAC technologies, including virtualized systems and real-time simulation tools. Candidates should be passionate about IEC 61850, be skilled in digital substation testing and commissioning, and be excited to support training and commissioning projects across North America.

Tesco Automation Launches New Virtualized Protection Training
2024 also saw the launch of a new IEC 61850 University course: Virtualized Protection with Real-Time Simulators. This advanced training explores the principles and architecture behind vPAC systems, with a strong focus on hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world experience with:
- Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
- vPAC servers from Advantech, Dell, and Crystal
- ABB’s SSC600 platform
- Tools like IEDScout and advanced test sets
This course also introduces participants to the work of the vPAC Alliance and highlights the collaborative efforts driving industry transformation. Click here for more information.
MDS Roadshow Update
Tesco Automation is proud to report the successful completion of the IEC 61850 University Mobile Digital Substation (MDS) roadshow, which covered over 8,500 miles across North America. Our next-generation MDS is not only light enough to travel across the country, but also features, IEC 61869 and 9-2 LE Sample Value Applications, GOOSE & SV Supervision, and a fully functional HMI with advanced network tools. We also demonstrated vPAC Solutions with the HIL Test Sets from multiple vendors.
The roadshow concluded with a special course hosted by Salt River Project (SRP) in Tempe, Arizona, from January 13–17, 2025!
Upcoming Training Opportunity from Tesco Automation and IEC 61850 University

This 5-day Tier I & II training offers a unique chance to deepen your expertise in the IEC 61850 standard through hands-on Mobile Digital Substation (MDS) training, plus an exclusive tour of SCE’s state-of-the-art grid monitoring lab – one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the world.
